What Should I Do Next After Embracing Islam?

After accepting Islam one should focus on learning more about the 5 pillars and eventually learn more on broader topics as knowledge and experience is gained. It is imperative to start learning how to pray — we have organised leaflets, videos and practical sessions to help.

Like with any new venture, it may be difficult and a struggle at first but many of us have gone through this and we are here with a helping hand. Trying to learn all of Islam in one day is near impossible so prioritise the 5 pillars before moving on.

"Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him."

— Sunan Ibn Majah, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2646

Islam teaches a balanced approach to life, focusing on justice, compassion, and responsibility. Shariah simply means "the path to follow." It's the moral and legal framework in Islam — guiding how Muslims live, worship, and interact with others.
Originally it started as a political difference with differing opinions on who should be the successor to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in terms of governance of the state. The majority stated that the successors should be as it was with the 4 rightly guided caliphs: Abu Bakr, Omar, Uthman and Ali (Sunni group). A minority believed the successor should have been a relative of the Prophet — namely Ali and through his lineage (Shia group). Later on there were doctrinal and other differences.
